Although this board was new to us, the team and I were well acquainted with its older brother, Big Blue (which has been reviewed in a previous post). This more recent model proved to have some slight differences.

The rocker on this board is very tangible, which can be a good or bad thing. On one hand, it makes charging down the wave a breeze, and you can really pump forward all you want. On the other hand, the nose is prone to snuffing under the water (this is known as "pearling" to all you ocean surfers). We rode this board in freezing May waters, and when that nose dipped, the rocker all but catapulted us into the 55 degree lake. Not a fun experience. However, this board is buoyant and easy out of the water, and it is also forgiving in the whitewater chop of an underdeveloped wave. My less-experienced surfer friends were able to enjoy this board, and it would be appropriate for an intermediate-level rider.
